Cholesterol

A secondary hydroxyl group is present in the C3 position of cholesterol, making it a steroid. Many different types of tissue, but especially the liver and intestinal wall, synthesise it. Atherosclerotic risk screening, lipid and lipoprotein metabolic diseases, and conditions involving increased cholesterol levels are all diagnosed and treated with the use of cholesterol measures.
