Anti Thyroglobulin Antibodies

The thyroid gland produces thyroglobulin (Tg), which is a major constituent of the thyroid follicle lumen. Individuals with autoimmunity-based thyroiditis had higher serum concentrations of Tg-autoantibodies. High levels of both anti-Tg and anti-TPO are suggestive of chronic thyroiditis caused by lymphocytic infiltration (Hashimoto’s disease). About 70% to 80% of persons with autoimmune-thyroiditis, including Hashimoto’s disease, and approximately 30% of those with Graves’ disease have thyroglobulin antibodies.
