Chloride

The primary anion in the extracelullar water space found in all bodily fluids, chloride (Cl), is in charge of preserving the acid-base balance, sending nerve signals, and controlling the flow of fluid into and out of cells. Conditions including prolonged diarrhoea, renal failure, and dehydration cause an increase in chloride, whereas overhydration, chronic respiratory acidosis, metabolic alkalosis, and congestive heart failure cause a drop in chloride.
